Her father, Daniel and mother Ann were both born in Ohio around 1820. Mary Ann was born April. 24, 1843 in Ohio. She was was the oldest of eight brothers and sisters, Margaret b-1844, George b-1846, Thomas b-1849, James b-1852, Angelina b-1854, David b-1855, and Elizabeth b-1859. Living also in Greene County was her Uncle John Darrough and Aunt Roseann and their six children, Armilda b-1849, Margaret b-1851, Thomas b-1852, Ordella b-1855, William b-1857, Rachel b-1860.

She married John Cameron Owen on February 24th, 1862 by the Justice of the Peace, Thomas Patterson in Greene County, Indiana. She mothered the six children of J.C. Owen. In 1865 they move to Macon, IL.

On October 30th 1893 at 7:10 PM at the age of 50 years, 6 months and 6 days, Mary Ann died of Typhoid Fever in their home at 957 South Colfax Street, in Macon. She was buried November 1st, 1893, in Decatur, Illinois by the undertaker, J.B. Bull. Her Dr. was Dr. J.H. Eddy.
