John Cameron Owen

1842-1907 (65 at Death)

John C. Owen was the son of Evan and Priscilla Sanders Owen. He was born in Highland township of Greene County, Indiana in 1842. He was the youngest of 12 children born to them.

Evan and Pricilla had come to Greene County, from North Carolina around 1817. Pricilla came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Sanders, and Evan came with his father and brothers. They were married in Greene County in 1819.

J.C. Owen, as he was known, married Mary Ann Darrough Owen on February 24, 1862 in Greene County. They moved westward several times, finally settling in Macon, Illinois where he had the job of Public School Truant Officer for the City of Macon. They had 7 children, four boys, Wesley b-1868, Charles b-1870, James b-1872, and William Addison b-1874 and three daughters, Alice b-1871, Myrtle b-1873 and Clara b-1876.

I believe most of the children were born in Macon, but I do know that William was born in a dug out hut in Mitchell, Kansas. But after his birth they did move back to Macon where the children were all raised till married. J.C. moved to Topeka, Kansas after the death of his wife, where he died on April 22, 1907.
